Torrey Hills Technologies, LLC Receives SBIR Phase II Grant for Coal Mine Safety Project from National Science Foundation

(SAN DIEGO, CA, August 3rd, 2012) – Torrey Hills Technologies, LLC (THT) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a Phase II grant from National Science Foundation (NSF) for coal mine safety project which is entitled "SBIR Phase II: Capture and Use of Coal Mine Ventilation Air Methane (VAM)."

The $500K Phase II grant is effective August 15, 2012 and will last 24 months. It will support the development and commercialization of THT’s patent-pending technologies that can significantly reduce the risk of coal mine gas explosion.

“During Phase I R&D, we developed the 2nd generation machine which convert the explosive methane gas to harmless substances at above 50% efficiencies,” said Dr. Lai Qi, the Principal Investigator at Torrey Hills Technologies, LLC. “This follow up grant will enable us to develop the 3rd generation system with higher efficiencies and move forward to the field testing.”
